The New York Times Company has announced the creation of a new business unit dedicated to the publication of electronic editions in advance of the expected launch of Apple‘s tablet or, depending on which blog post you read, the iPad.
The Times currently offers electronic editions for the Kindle, the Sony
Reader, and the Barnes & Noble Nook, as well as its Web site and free
iPhone application.
Yasmin Namini, currently the senior vice president of marketing and circulation, has been appointed head of the new Reader Applications division. This unit will be part of the Media Group, joining the newspaper, the Web site, the International Herald Tribune and News Services.
