Traffic Overloads Vevo's Servers
Vevo, the joint, Hulu-like venture for music videos created by New-York based Vivendi's Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, has been dealing with traffic to its site that has "exceeded [their] expecations by several orders of magnitude" since its launch yesterday, according to tweets published NewTeeVee.
The site, which also includes videos from EMI artists, is supposed to be a "MTV for the digital age, a music site where all the latest and archived videos can be found," according to Reuters. In its coverage, the wire service notes that Vevo takes into account the facts that MTV Networks is no longer considered a major outlet for playing music videos and YouTube is an important music discovery tool that has yet to attract premium advertising dollars.
Vevo's formal launch event took place at Skylight Studios in Manhattan's Hudson Square neighborhood and was attended by Bono, Adam Lambert, Mariah Carey, and Lady Gaga.
