'Fleshbot' Awards at The Box Boost Site Traffic
In the most recent memo to his editorial staff from Gawker Media Publisher Nick Denton, he notes how the blog network's porn-focused Web site received a boost in traffic from its coverage of its awards at burlesque club The Box in Manhattan's Lower East Side neighborhood and how none of the network's sites are averaging under 20 million pageviews per month. Overall, the network's 400 million pageviews place it well ahead of The Los Angeles Times' 100 to 200 million and below The New York Times' one billion.
However, he adds that beginning in 2010, the New-York based network will begin paying more attention to clickthroughs from external Web sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Digg, and the number of uniques each site receives, noting that they "can't just satisfy [their] existing regulars; [they] have to recruit new ones."
