Next Phase of NYC Big Apps Competition Begins
Beginning today, contestants will be able to access data provided by 30 city agencies, including weekly traffic updates, schedules of citywide events, property sales, restaurant inspections and mappable data around school and voting districts.
Developers will have until December 8 to submit their software applications using this data. The application will be judged by prominent figures in New York's tech community, such as Union Square Ventures' Fred Wilson, and local entrepreneurs, including Betaworks' John Borthwick. California-based Mahalo's Jason Calacanis will also be judging.
More than $20,000 in cash prizes is available to be distributed to winners as well as a private dinner with Mayor Bloomberg.
The competition is being hosted by ChallengePost, a privately funded start-up based in New York City and will be officially unveiled tonight at the NY Tech Meetup.
