Time Warner Asks FCC to Deregulate NYC Pricing

Since Verizon FiOS is offering 160 of the same TV channels as Time Warner Cable currently offers, Time Warner is seeking total price deregulation in Manhattan from the Federal Communications Commissions.

Under the current laws, cable providers cannot charge Manhattan  customers more than a specified amount for basic cable, which typically defines the base rate on top of which additional charges are added for channels outside of the basic package. If deregulated, Time Warner could offer customers a larger array of packages with different pricing structures.

There is no deadline for the FCC to reach a decision. Similar requests have sometimes taken up to four years to settle.
