O'Donnell Talks to NYC Council on Local Tech Biz
Path 101 and nextNY Founder Charlie O'Donnell spoke to the New York City Council yesterday about ways to improve New York City's small business technology sector. He suggested while funding is readily available, it is a lack of talent that is really holding the local industry back.
O'Donnell had three recommendations for the NYC Council:
1) Add a technology community manager position who would act as a contact for businesses and provide them with information on city services, local university programs, large businesses looking to work with small businesses, etc.
2) Refocus public and private schools as well as universities on technology education, highlighting the benefits of working in or starting a technology business in NYC.
3) Local government officials participate in the local tech community by either connecting through social networking tools like Twitter or signing up for nextNY's listserv.
