Q&A: Allen Stern, CenterNetworks
Allen Stern’s CenterNetworks covers the tech space, with a focus on New York. He mentioned recently at the Social Ad Summit in New York, where he moderated a panel, that he had traveled to the West Coast to do some work, and then took time to answer a few questions via email:
Q: How is it that you're in NY?
I was living in Atlanta and decided that my hometown of NYC wasn't being covered from a Web perspective. In April 2007, I packed up and moved back to NYC to cover the Web scene.
Q: What are you doing here?
I am ... trying to provide an outlet for Web startups to get worldwide exposure for their products and services.
Q: Is there enough activity to justify the move from Atlanta (and the rise in
housing cost you mentioned from $600/month to $3,000/month)?
I wish I could say yes. The networking is great but in NYC startups are very reserved. On the west coast, startups will talk the minute they have an idea, here in NYC they won't talk until their product is live. I
wish more NYC startups would contact me!
Q: If not, what you doing to fill the space, etc?
I am doing a bit of consulting along with CenterNetworks. Most of the consulting work I do is strategy work for startups through large corporations.
