Smart Meters To Benefit ConEd's NYC Customers

New York Daily News

In an op-ed, NYC Councilman Eric Gioia writes that the introduction of Smart Meters by ConEd will lower NYC residents' bills and help prevent blackouts.

He notes that the meters provide real-time data, allowing users to adjust their consumption when the prices are high and reducing the need for on-site inspections.  Altered consumption patterns, he adds, will help reduce strain on NYC's aging power grid, largely unchanged since the 19th century when it was first put in place.
