RCN Gives NYC Customers Free Digital Upgrade

Starting October 1, about 15,000 of the cable company's NYC customers who pay for basic cable will receive a free upgrade to a digital cable package.

The package will include about a dozen new channels, including Reelz, American Life, the Word, NASA, Pentagon, Jewelry TV, and four Brooklyn Community Access TV channels.  At the same time however, those customers will lose National Geographic and Bloomberg.

The move comes as RCN's competitors continue to add more high-definition channels and follows recent news about Verizon's pricing plans and available high-definition channels for FiOS TV customers in NYC.
